Diffusion has supplied 722 fan coil units to the iconic Battersea Power Station redevelopment in London, one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe. The company has provided a combination of its Highline 270 EC horizontal and Highwall 260 EC vertical fan coil units to provide heating and cooling for the prestigious project. Situated on the South Bank, Battersea Power Station is a landmark and one of the last major symbols of London’s industrial past. The redevelopment of the Power Station is set to bring both the building itself and the surrounding area back to life.
The aim of the Battersea Power Station building project is to provide a truly mixed-use space with over 100 shops, restaurants and cafés, a 2,000-person capacity events venue, a unique chimney lift experience offering 360-degree panoramic views of London’s skyline from a height of over 100m, new office space, 500,000 sq. ft. of which will be Apple’s new London campus and over 250 new residential apartments. As part of Phase 2 of the redevelopment, contractors Imtech and ESG PLC installed Diffusion’s Highline 270 EC horizontal and Highwall 260 EC fan coil units within the residential units in the old Power Station building.
Energy efficiency was a key factor when specifying fan coil units for the Battersea Power Station project. Diffusion’s Highline 270 EC and Highwall 260 EC waterside control fan coil units are fitted with high efficiency EC/DC motors and boast specific fan powers as low as 0.16W/l/s and 0.14W/l/s respectively. Low sound levels were another important element in specifying the fan coils since they needed to meet the Noise Rating requirements for the project, with bedrooms required to meet NR25 and lounges NR30. Since the fan coils featured built-in discharge and inlet attenuation low sound levels were further reduced, these features also enabled a more compact installation and assisted in the co-ordination of the units. Acoustic and volumetric testing was conducted in the Diffusion test laboratory to ensure required performance levels would be met in this real-world setting.
“We have installed Diffusion’s Highline 270 EC and Highwall 260 EC fancoil units on many projects including Switch House East at Battersea Power Station and have found the units offer a high-quality performance”, said Dev Patel at Imtech Engineering London & South “We are delighted that our Highline 270 EC and Highwall 260 EC fan coil units have been selected to provide heating and cooling at this iconic development. Battersea Power Station is set to become one of the most exciting and innovative mixed-use developments in the world. Residents, workers and visitors are all set to benefit from a comfortable indoor environment and the Diffusion fan coils will help provide this” explains Paul Meech, Business Unit Director at Diffusion. “Thermal comfort is an important factor in modern buildings and energy efficient fan coils offer discrete on-demand heating and cooling.”
The Highline 270 EC provides heating and cooling to both residential and commercial properties and is the most efficient fan coil on the market, offering the best possible energy savings. These versatile 270mm deep fan coil units can be mounted in horizontal (ceiling), vertical (wall) and underfloor applications. Meanwhile, the Highwall 260 EC provides high performance selections down to NR20, exceeding the Battersea Power Station project noise rating requirements. The fan coil unit’s low noise level and vertical mounting lends itself to the residential market where it is ideal for installing behind wardrobes and in concealed installations. Diffusion’s Highline 270 EC and Highwall 260 EC are ErP Directive 2015 Compliant and have a lifetime ECO wire mesh filter, fitted as standard, that can be vacuum cleaned in situ or removed for cleaning elsewhere if required.
